Things to do in Marrakech
Things to do in Marrakech
The essentials, without the cliché
Marrakech offers a range of experiences that often surprises. Beyond the must-sees, here's our shortlist — the one we share with friends when they come to visit.
In the medina
Jemaa el-Fna in late afternoon
The beating heart of Marrakech, listed as UNESCO intangible heritage. Arrive around 5 p.m. to watch the square transform: storytellers, snake charmers and monkey handlers give way to street-food stalls after dark.
The souks, by trade
Souk Semmarine (textiles, jewellery), the Dyers' Souk, Souk Haddadine (ironwork), Souk Cherratine (leather). You get lost — that's the point.
Bahia Palace & Saadian Tombs
Two monuments best seen early in the morning to avoid the crowds.
Traditional hammam
An essential experience. Several tiers: local (10–20 dh), mid-range, high-end (La Mamounia, Royal Mansour). We'll point you to the right one for your stay.
Beyond the walls
Majorelle Garden & YSL Museum
Book online, arrive at opening. The garden, its Majorelle blue, then the museum next door. Allow 2–3 hours.
A day trip
Ourika Valley (45 min), Agafay desert (45 min, quad bike + dinner under the stars), Essaouira (3 h, Atlantic coast). We handle everything: transport, driver, restaurants.
